Who we are
The Hunter Institute of Mental Health is a business unit of the Mental Health Services in the Hunter New England Area Health Service.
The mission of the Hunter Institute of Mental Health is to promote mental health and to improve the outcomes for people with mental illnesses.

The Institute is located in the port city of Newcastle in the Hunter Valley, NSW
What we do
We provide a range of education and training programs as well as undertake health promotion projects in our local region and across Australia.
We provide continuing professional development programs for those who deliver services to people who have a mental illness or who may be at risk of becoming ill.
We provide training programs for people who work in the helping professions, or who work in community service organisations, to improve their skills and their understanding of the mental illnesses.
We provide a range of training programs to increase the level of understanding of mental illnesses in the community.
We provide programs for parents, teachers and others who work with children to assist them to understand how they can foster the knowledge and skills for good mental health throughout life.
We undertake programs to reduce the stigma associated with mental illnesses and to encourage individuals to seek help if they experience social or emotional distress.
We undertake suicide prevention programs across Australia.
We provide programs for organisations to assist them to promote mental health and to reduce the impact that mental illnesses have on their workforce.
